The story behind Matlab according to Budha

If there was any sort of a “typical love song” in our album then I suppose Matlab would be the one.  Although some might say this song is not so typical when compared to most Nepalese love songs.  Well hey what ever…we did our best to make a so called love song without using any Maya saya in it and this was the outcome.

Coming up with this song took a lot of time.  This song was especially difficult since this was one of the last tracks for the album and frustration was really kicking in at this point since we had already spent more than 8 months working on our album.  The idea for the song came about from a part of the lyrics that our good friend Kiran had written out of he’s own frustrations in he’s own little life.

The lyrics had a lot of angst and frustration in it so initially we though it would be great as a Rock track.  Initially we were excited when we heard the rock version of this track but like always we are not fully satisfied with anything we do.  We kept pursuing the rock version of this track not knowing whether this is the direction that the song should go in.  Almost a month or two into working on this track we did not really see this song making any progress at all so then we finally completely stopped working on Matlab.

2 weeks after I returned back to LA, I started working on a track which I thought sounded a little different to any other tracks that we had on our album.  The track took about 20 minutes to compose and for some reason the music and melody for this particular track had more of an RnB flavor.  Lacking ideas for lyrics for this new composition, I some how started singing parts of the lyrics that we had for the rock version of Matlab.  The result was a match made in heaven.  The lyrics fit perfectly well with the mood of the music and the melody.  The rest of the song was completed soon after and that is how Matlab came about.
